Listening sessions to help you decompress + reconnect—through music + shared presence. A space to breathe, listen, and be.
Think of The Treehouse as more of a concept rather than a physical space–a DJ listening session rooted in the Afrofuturist principles reimagining rest as a space for dreaming, healing, and relaxing.

Mad Myth Science is the collective musical offering of Molly Jones, Julian Otis, Wilson Tanner Smith, and Ben Zucker. Their through-improvised performances present a rich cross-section of Chicago creativity, bringing experience in jazz and creative music, contemporary composition, electronics, and dance and theatrical performing arts together into a pageantry of sound and spontaneous rituals.
—
Cristal Sabbagh is a teaching interdisciplinary artist influenced by film, history, politics, Butoh and improvised sound. In her performances, her goal is to embody transformational memories, challenge power structures, and awaken viewers' senses. Cristal has found that working with live improvised music has inspired her best work, which has become vital to her practice.
She is currently curating and performing in Freedom From and Freedom To as an opportunity to combine most of her creative interests in a risk-taking and vulnerable way. It uses an ensemble of dancers and improvising musicians that are remarkably diverse in their approaches to dance, instrumentation, and backgrounds.
—
amanda maraist is a movement deviser + improviser from the texas gulf coast, living in chicago.
she co-directs bim bom studios + works collaboratively with movers, musicians and artists. most recently with Irene Hsiao, Helen Lee, Harlan Rosen, Gina Hoch-Stall, Chrissy Martin, Freedom From and Freedom To, Khecari, Ayako Kato / Art Union Humanscape and independently.
her movement work exists as both dance-making and physical space-making. using authentic movement practices and meticulously rendered improvisational scores, her work is process-forward with a do-it-together demeanor.
she is supported by a 2024 Links Hall Co-MISSIONS Residency, a 2025 residency at the Ragdale Foundation, a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant, and is a Synapse Arts New Works artist for 2025. bim bom studios is a 2024 recipient of the City of Chicago’s Small Business Improvement Fund grant for capital improvements, and has also received programming support from the Cook County Small Business Bureau’s Source Fund in 2024.

ROUGH HOUSE tour kick-off show
Help Rough House Theater Co. kick off their summer tour with a preview of Out With It
In the languages of clown, found-object puppetry, and visual poetry, Claire Saxe’s Out With It tells a playful and lyrical tale about holding things in and letting things go. Our fastidious protagonist seeks to keep her space in order, while “wildness” creeps in at every turn. In a relentless –and often messy– battle of wills, our tenacious clown comes head to head with her own chaos. Will order prevail? Will wildness win? One thing is certain: There’s only room on this stage for one of them…
Best suited for audiences ages 10+

Movement Direction Chih-Jou Cheng

The Space Between | Ensemble Improvisation Workshop
The Space Between is a 4 day dance laboratory, bringing contact and ensemble improvisation practitioners and educators together to drop into our felt bodies, tune to one another with/out touch, and experiment with tools for crafting realtime performance. The program includes morning sessions for lubrication and skill building, afternoons dedicated to balancing our kinesthetic and compositional awareness, and evening performances showcasing participants, teachers, and invited guests. Our goal is to dive together into the juicy overlaps between these forms in an environment full of commitment and laughter. You can find all the information you need on our webpage and below.
We're flying in my longtime collaborator and improvisation extraordinaire, Scott McPheeters to co-facilitate the ensemble workshops with me. He'll also be leading a drop-in morning class, as will Chicago contact improvisation legend Chrissy Martin. safety release saturday
facilitated by kt williams
Safety Release Saturdays will explore how breath and dynamic alignment guide movement efficiency, release frozen tension, and allow ease of movement within a technical form. This workshop series will focus on the principles of Safety Release (SR) Technique, offering an intermediate/advanced approach to foundational contemporary dance technique. Over the span of 3 hours, we will dive deeply into the full somatic structure of Safety Release (SR) Technique. Class is evenly split between floor work and vertical, traveling movement phrases: the warm-up will function as a somatic movement laboratory and will progress into standing and physically rigorous traveling patterns that challenge directionality, weight shift, counter balance, and suspended movement. This session will dedicate time to start slowly, ask questions, articulate movement patterns, and find joy in dancing together.
Drop-in: $10-$30
Participants should register via google form here.
Please reach out to kt via email at ktwilliams310@gmail.com with any questions or for more information.
