About the set up:
The live room is about 1,200 square feet with 13 foot tall ceilings, with maple wood flooring. Rugs and acoustic baffles dampen the acoustics as needed, and there is a vocal booth / isolation room in the live room (for extreme isolation, voiceover, etc). Down below the live room are two rooms which can be utilized for further isolation for larger ensemble set ups.
The control room (playback) is isolated from the live room with two separate door enclosures and a narrow room in between the two spaces (sound isn’t heard between the two rooms). This is ideal for recording so that the engineer can make crucial decisions about what is being recorded without the inference of the source sound, hearing only what is being recorded through speakers.
For live band tracking, amplifiers can be run down to the basement for isolation. Upstairs, in the live room, is an isolation room for recording single instruments for a noise-free recording environment (vocals, voice-over, delicate acoustic instruments, isolating amps, etc). Live room monitoring is done with independent headphone mixers, or with PA speakers if headphones are not preferred.
I like to have conversations about each session with well in advance, so that when an artist, collaborator, or band comes in to record most things are already set up and nearly ready to go with minimal fuss. Sessions usually run from 11am-7pm for a full day session, but I can always start an hour earlier or later if need be. Half days can be any 4-hour block of time in a given day between the hours of 9am-6pm.
The space is right off of the 77 CTA bus, and is on the first floor with easy load in and parking if you drive. There is a kitchenette with a fridge, coffee, tea, etc. and there are grocery stores and lots of food spots within a 2-3 minute walk of the space.
My email is at the top of the page if you’d want to chat more.
